After six years dedicated to the promotion of industrial and apocalyptic sonorities (among others) Heimdallr webzine gives a step forward and creates a new label and this is their first release.
First thing to say about this – run for it, do not miss this ‘unique’ compilation of some of the most important dark-folk / neo-classic / ambient projects known.

The A side of this record contains five tracks of five of the most well known Dark-Folk projects. The opening theme from Dev’s While Angels Watch is an excellent introduction to this compilation motto ‘Europa Aeterna’ – an excellent text that made me look forward for his forthcoming full lenght. The second track ‘In Ewigkeit’ from Lady Morphia was also an excellent surprise – a really moving melody. The next two tracks are from the now ‘defunct’ German project Dies Natalis – most probably those were their last tracks and for me two of the most beautiful songs they ever done – perfect harmony between female and male voice and acoustic guitar (with particular meaning for me as one of the track is ‘dedicated’ to Adrago Beach – which is a beautiful beach here near Sintra). Darkwood track ‘Torn Nation’ - the only track I already knew, as it is one of the extra tracks from ‘Weltenwende’ CD release, although this is the original version – is one of the pure and finest neo-folk acoustic tracks I ever listen with very strong lyrics. The last track – Sonne Hagal ‘Europa Aeterna’ - is another highlight of this compilation and maybe one of the tracks that most surprised me because it isn’t a ‘standard’ from the band – the acoustic guitar is played is some kind of loop and is involved with ‘electronic’ sounds that makes it particularly catching and ‘new’; also Oliver’s singing sounds are a bit different from his usual – more ‘deep’ and less ‘clean’, that sometimes reminds me Naevus’ Lloyd James way of singing.

The B side of this 12inch LP starts with a live track from the Camerata Mediolanense side project Camerata Sforzesca; the sound is not much different from Camerata Mediolanense stuff – neo-classic melodies with powerful ‘military’ drums with strong voices in a crescent that made me yearn for that track never end! The second track is Decadence ‘Lacrimae’; an excellent neo-classic track with piano and strings – maybe one of his best songs so far. Karnnos with ‘O Bosque do Limiar’ is for me the best track of this side of ‘Europa Aeterna’ – an excellent ambient soft melody with whispered voice with a remarkable construction and catching declamation. The last track Reutoff ‘Four lines of the sun’ is an excellent neo-classic / ambient track with a very nice electronic soundscapes – once again a project presents here one his best works so far.

So, only good reasons to buy this excellent edition that, beside the music will present you a high quality vinyl pressing and an astonishing artwork.

Antes de mais, devo dizer: vão comprá-lo a toda a pressa. Não percam esta compilação ‘única’ de alguns dos mais importantes projectos dark-folk / neo-classic / ambient conhecidos.

O lado A deste disco contém cinco faixas dos projectos dark-folk mais conhecidos. O tema de abertura, dos Dev’s While Angels Watch é uma excelente introdução ao tema desta compilação, ‘Europa Aeterna’ – um texto excelente que fez com que eu ficasse ansioso pelo seu futuro LP. A segunda faixa, ‘In Ewigkeit’ de Lady Morphia também foi uma excelente surpresa – uma melodia muitíssimo comovente. As duas faixas seguintes são do agora ‘morto e enterrado’ projecto alemão Dies Natalis – muito provavelmente estas foram as suas últimas faixas e, para mim, duas das mais belas canções que alguma vez fizeram – harmonia perfeita entre as vozes masculina e feminina e a guitarra acústica (com um sentido muito especial para mim, pois uma das faixas é ‘dedicada’ à Praia da Adraga – uma praia lindíssima perto de Sintra). A faixa dos Darkwood ‘Torn Nation’ – a única faixa que eu já conhecia, pois é uma das faixas extra do lançamento em CD ‘Weltenwende’, embora esta seja a versão original – é uma das mais puras e mais belas faixas acústicas de neo-folk que ouvi até hoje, com um texto muito forte. A última faixa – Sonne Hagal ‘Europa Aeterna’ – é outro ponto alto desta compilação e talvez uma das faixas que mais me surpreendeu, pois não é um ‘standard’ da banda – a guitarra acústica é tocada numa espécie de loop e envolve-se com os sons ‘electrónicos’, o que a torna particularmente atraente e ‘nova’; por outro lado, os sons do canto de Oliver são um pouco diferentes do habitual – mais ‘profundos’ e menos ‘limpos’, o que por vezes me traz à memória a maneira de cantar de Lloyd James dos Naevus.

O lado B deste LP de 12” começa com uma faixa ao vivo dos Camerata Sforzesca, projecto colateral dos Camerata Mediolanense; o som não é muito diferente do material dos Camerata Mediolanense – melodias neo-clássicas com potente percursão ‘militarista’ e vozes fortes, num crescendo que me fez desejar que esta faixa nunca mais acabasse! A segunda faixa é ‘Lacrimae’ dos Decadence; uma excelente faixa neo-clássica com piano e cordas – talvez um dos seus melhores temas até à data. Karnnos com ‘O Bosque do Limiar’ é, para mim, a melhor faixa deste lado de ‘Europa Aeterna’ – um suave ambiente de notável construção e declamação fascinante. ‘Four lines of the sun’ dos Reutoff, é um excelente tema neo-clássico / ambiental de agradáveis paisagens sonoras electrónicas – mais um projecto a apresentar aqui um dos seus melhores projectos até à data.

Portanto, muitas e boas razões para comprar esta excelente edição que, além da música, apresenta um vinyl de alta qualidade e uma arte final excepcional.
